FAQ

What is WebMynd?

Some people call it a DVR for the web other people call it their web memory. WebMynd creates a personal internet archive where you can keep the things you have seen on the internet and find them again using visual and full text search.

How does WebMynd work?

After installing the WebMynd plug-in just browse the web as you would regularly. A copy of the sites you visit is kept on your computer's hard drive and the text is sent to our servers so we can index the information to make it easier for you to retrieve later. You can turn WebMynd on and off with a single click and you can set it to never record particular sites, you have 100% control.

Can I access my WebMynd history offline?

Yes, if you use FireFox 3. WebMynd uses the new features of FireFox 3’s “Awesome Bar” to provide you access to saved copies of your pages when you are offline. Simply type the url as if you were navigating to the page, the “Awesome Bar” will help with its autocomplete.

There is no visual playback available when you are offline. You must have access to the internet in order to view WebMynd visual playback.

What platforms are supported?

WebMynd is currently supported with Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 beta on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

What technologies are used?

Webmynd consists of a Firefox Extension. A website which allows you to playback and search your web history. Javascript and XUL are used in the extension while the server runs Python on TurboGears. Most of the software is proprietary but the Firefox extension also incorporates elements of Scrapbook and those elements are licensed under the MPL.

How much does it cost?

WebMynd is Free!!! There may be a premium version of the service offered in the future.

How do I remove it?

You can remove WebMynd in the same way that you would any other Firefox extension. Go to the Firefox menu Tools->Add-ons, a pop up window will appear. Select WebMynd and click the Uninstall button. You will need to restart Firefox to complete the uninstall process.

WebMynd also stores thumbnails and snapshots of the websites it saves in a directory called 'WebMynd Files' in your Firefox profile directory. You should delete this directory to completely remove all traces of your WebMynd history.
